Mastoid process - change of direction
The dotted line that runs along the lateral edge of the sternocleidomastoid muscle makes a sudden directional change. At this location, the muscle connects to the skull by attaching itself to the mastoid process. The dotted line then continues along the edge of the mastoid process, a bony landmark more prominent in males.
